The gas storage site Schmidhausen is located 10 km northwest of Rosenheim in Bavaria. It was built in 1983 in a former gas field and has an underground extension of 10 km2.
Its storage structure lies in a depth of 1,000 m and is opened up in about 7 wells. As pore storage Schmidhausen serves to balance the demand gap between summer and winter months and contributes to the security of gas supply in the Bavarian capital Munich.
