Führendes Knowhow in allen Untertagetechnologien
In Germany, Storengy operates gas storages of different types. Well-positioned throughout the country, the company is operator for a total of seven pore and cavern storages. Further sites include the centrals dispatching centre at Doetlingen as well as the head offices of our subsidiary Storengy Deutschland Betrieb GmbH in Hanover. Storengy Deutschland GmbH is located in Berlin.
Pore storages use the pore space of underground rock layers to store gas. These can constitute former natural gas / crude oil reservoirs or aquifers (water-saturated rock layers). Pore storage facilities with their high storage volume and moderate injection and withdrawal capacities are well-suited for long-term storage required to cover seasonally-fluctuating demand.
Storengy-operated Pore Storages in Germany:
- Fronhofen near Pfullendorf / Baden-Württemberg
- Schmidhausen near Rosenheim / Bavaria
- Uelsen near Nordhorn / Lower Saxony
Cavities artificially leached out of the massive rock salt bodies of salt domes are used for cavern storage. The average diameter of those caverns is about 50 m, some reaching heights of over 300 m. Cavern storage facilities lend themselves well to flexible and short-term coverage during times of peak consumption.
