Our expertise in geothermal energy
Alongside other industry players, we pioneer centralised and decentralised geothermal energy solutions in response to the challenges of global energy.
We are working on many ambitious projects in our three main fields of expertise: power generation, heating and cooling grids and decentralized heating and cooling. Here are some of our achievements.
We support electricity producers and industrial companies, supplying networks with renewable power.
Partnership with Reykjavik Geothermal for the development of geothermal energy projects in Mexico
Storengy and Reykjavik Geothermal are working together on geothermal projects in Mexico to supply power to a fast-growing Mexican market. They are currently developing a portfolio of three exploration permits in the states of Puebla and Nayarit.
Partnership with TLS Geothermics
In June 2017, Storengy and TLS Geothermics signed a partnership agreement on high-temperature geothermal energy. The agreement paves the way for cooperation on R&D projects to:
- reduce the risks and costs of the exploration phase,
- develop power generation in France and Europe.
Partnership with ENGIE Indonesia
Storengy lends its expertise to the ENGIE Group projects run in Indonesia, where it is involved in the qualification and development of geothermal resources. In early 2017, as part of the PT Supreme Energy Muara Laboh consortium, ENGIE launched the first phase of an 80 MW high-temperature geothermal energy power generation project.
Heating and cooling grids
We work with cities, leisure centres and industrial facilities to supply heating and cooling to large areas.
Arcueil-Gentilly in partnership with ENGIE Réseaux (networks)
In 2013, ENGIE Réseaux was awarded a public service delegation contract to design, build and operate a new heating network in the municipalities of Arcueil and Gentilly, in the Paris region. Storengy is responsible for managing the geothermal doublet drilling project.
Village Nature in partnership with ENGIE Réseaux (networks)
In 2015, Storengy joined ENGIE Réseaux and two investment funds to design, build, finance and operate the geothermal heating network of the new Villages Nature and Disneyland® Paris park.
The operating concession is valid for 25 years for Project Management Assistance (subsurface) as part of a private-investment project run by Eurodisney and Pierre & Vacances Center Parks.
PLAINE DE GARONNE ENERGIES with the city of Bordeaux and ENGIE Cofely
In 2017, the city of Bordeaux selected the ENGIE tender, led by Storengy and ENGIE Cofely, to design, build and operate a new heating grid in central Bordeaux under a 30-year public service delegation contract.
The flagship project includes both the exploration of a deep Jurassic reservoir and the roll-out of the first geothermal doublet in the French Aquitaine region.
Decentralised heating and cooling
Buildings, campuses, eco-neighbourhoods: discover some of our projects for supplying heating and cooling to small facilities.
Partnership with ENSEGID
In January 2017, Storengy and ENSEGID signed a partnership agreement to collaborate on innovative projects related to geothermal energy and seasonal energy storage such as:
- Aquifer Thermal Energy Storage (ATES), for which there are no projects in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of south-west France,
- Borehole Thermal Energy Storage (BTES) or geothermal probe fields.
These local and decentralised projects suited to urban renewal areas and new eco-neighbourhoods will provide innovative solutions for storing renewable energy, especially for heating and cooling.
Conversion of mines into energy (heat) storage facilities
In 2017, Storengy took part in studies to assess a geothermal energy storage solution on two existing former mine sites.
